Great picks guys.
My favorites are:
1. Laurel and Hardy – These guys are my number one choice!! My Dad is a huge fan and during my childhood he showed me his 8mm and 16mm prints of L&H and now I’m showing them to my kids with all the great dvd releases. The 10 disc Laurel and Hardy Essential collection is a MUST buy!! Craig, I’ll see if I can run across that title you were talking about.
2. Bing Crosby and Bob Hope – The “Road” pictures are so fun and they are “comfort movies” for me.
3. Abbott and Costello – Good pick Craig, I’m right there with you.
4. Basil Rathbone as Sherlock Holmes and Nigel Bruce as Dr. Watson. I love the old Universal series with these two actors. They’re fun mysteries on a b-movie level.
5. Tom and Jerry – Since Doug picked an animated duo, this is my favorite. The MGM produced cartoons from the 40’s and into the 50’s are so fun and fast paced.
Honorable Mention:
Wheeler and Woolsey – This comedic duo did over 20 movies between 1929 and 1937. Their comedy is wacky and over-the-top.
Some of their movies are being made available through the warner archives. My favorite is “The Nitwits” from 1934.
